We are a community arts agency based in Dumfries & Carlisle. We try to make a real commitment to the creative health of our border region, encouraging artists to draw from it and urging communities to participate in it.
We are both a producer and presenter of work through two international festivals that we run. In January each year we present Big Burns Supper which is now entering its sixth year, and in August we present Carlisle Fringe which has just had its first outing.
Our work tries to reach new audiences by mixing a variety of different art forms through collaboration, and presented across unusual spaces which might appeal to a new generation of culture goers.
We try to create original work which is energetic and deeply spirited, usually with a political or historical dimension.
Our Creative Sparks programme is a once in a lifetime opportunity for emerging talent to shine by working with us as Associate Artists over one year. Artists get to rationalise their artistic vision with us, and then begin an intensive year long programme which culminates in the development of major work.
We provide networking and resources that support artists to connect with each other and the audiences their work is intended for, and we support national companies by being the local performance gateway for national and international companies.
- To create a platform for emergent talent
- To inspire local people to fulfil their creative potential
- To increase access and participation to performing arts
- To develop positive partnerships through solidarity and engagement
