Burns Night Carnival

The project first started during the Homecoming 2014.  We were looking for something that could be accessed by a lot of different people at once.  That year more than 4,000 people came out and as the Carnival grew each year,  last year we had nearly 10,000 people on the streets at once.

Burns Night Carnival is landmark event which enables us to create a celebratory moment during the Big Burns Supper that everyone can take part in.   The rest of our programme shuts down while we all head outside in the cold.  It’s very Scottish!

You can be a school, a village hall, a cafe, an art gallery, a shop, a doctor’s surgery, a council department, a business, a theatre, a community centre, a pub or a community group who uses a space for people to come into.

This year’s Carnival theme is Tam O’Shanter – which is a poem written by Robert Burns.  The Lead Artist, Ryan Smith is busy working with Primary Schools and Community groups in the lead up to the big event.
